And it is this human story that has touched readers, and rightfully so. One reviewer found it "deeply affecting", while another stated it is "history with feelings." The Gilded Age was indeed a golden era for some at the top, but the large majority were relegated to a life of abuse and misery. Hence, this story needed to be told.
well..hello again! so I can't wait to read this and your other Historical..Liszt's Dante Symphony! they both koo like they will be awesome reads :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. If you enjoy losing yourself in the past, then you should find these books most enjoyable. What time period of these two novels appeals to you more?
ReplyDeletecan't wait! I really think I was born in the wrong time!
ReplyDeleteWell, yes, the past does have a great charm about it, and I had often said the same thing.
DeleteBut after reading a great deal about the past I soon realized that living without plumbing, electricity, automobiles, electronics, computers and so many other things we take for granted today, and seeing how many families in the Gilded Age lived worse than people in ancient civilizations, unless you were a Vanderbilt, Carnegie, Rockefeller etc., I am happy to live in the present.
But I still would love to go back in time to live there for a year or so! And reading about the past is the only way to achieve that wish. So I hope you enjoy these novels!
